The Emperor needs necromancers.
The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.
Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead nonsense.
I've never engaged with a space opera before(?).
I will admit, the setting is strange and a bit complicated. Like overall, I understand the basic worldbuilding though. The amount of characters introduced was also confusing and I couldn't remember half of them. Skill issue I guess?
People praise this being a huge lesbian must read with romance! “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space!” But that's pretty misleading actually. Gideon is a lesbian, but she is not a necromancer lmfao. Sure, there's tension between Gideon and Harrowhark, but there is no romance in this story. At most, Gideon ogles another woman.
I started the second book in the series, but I had to put it down. It's not what you expect coming out of the first book. I'll pick it up again at some point because I'm curious where the story goes.
